How does LAM Canada work?

LAM Canada does not exist as a charity on its own, but we have created a 'donor-advised fund' at Tides Canada Foundation, a national public foundation whose mission is to create partnerships with donors and charitable organizations to grow and organize resources for social change and environmental sustainability. Tides Canada facilitates innovative and effective grant-making programs, fosters opportunities for learning and builds community among donors and grantees. The name of the fund is "LAM Canada Fund".

What are the operating costs for LAM Canada? How much of my donation goes to research?

The Tides Canada Foundation charges LAM Canada a low administrative fee. As well, the credit card companies charge a fee for donations made by credit card or online through CanadaHelps. CanadaHelps does not charge any fees. Tides Canada also charges a fixed fee for each transfer of funds from LAM Canada.

The US LAM Foundation carries the major responsibility for funding international research. Approximately 92% of all donations that go through Tides Canada - the LAM Canada Fund go to the US LAM Foundation. We in turn have instructed the LAM Foundation that all monies from LAM Canada should go to research. Canadian women will always benefit from any research funded through the LAM Foundation. All expenses incurred by LAM Canada are not paid for from donations, but by private means.

BY CHEQUE: This is the best way to donate to LAM Canada as there are no additional charges. Please make your Cheque out to Tides Canada Foundation—the LAM Canada Fund. Please fill out the downloadable form and mail your cheque to the LAM Canada fund, c/o Tides Canada Foundation, 680-220 Cambie Street, Vancouver BC, Canada, V6B 2M9.

BY CREDIT CARD: Tides Canada accepts Visa or Mastercard. Please fill out the downloadable form and mail to LAM Canada fund, c/o Tides Canada Foundation, 680-220 Cambie Street, Vancouver BC, Canada, V6B 2M9. The credit card companies charge a small percentage of your donation. (Or call Mary Hiebert at 604-647-6611 ext 610 to make a credit card donation over the phone).
